Surgery Technology Club at Lake Superior College

Big shout-out to our Surgical Technology Club!

When they’re not mastering sterile technique, they’re tying knots with love 💙

These amazing students (along with many not pictured) spent an afternoon making cozy tie blankets to donate to our local animal shelter—bringing warmth, comfort, and lots of tail wags. Proud of this crew for caring beyond the OR!

Free Mental Health Care

A reminder as we start a new semester that 91ɬÂþ offers FREE and confidential mental health care to students.  This month, let’s focus on some of the myths that might prevent people from seeking therapy care.

Myth: Therapy is only for severe mental illness or crisis.

Reality: It's for everyday issues like stress, relationships, grief, personal growth, and self-understanding, it’s like a physical for your mind.

Myth: Seeking therapy means I'm weak, flawed, or "crazy."

Reality: It takes strength and self-awareness to seek support for life's challenges.  Reaching out for support requires vulnerability and is an act of courage.

Myth: Therapists just tell you what to do.

Reality: Therapy is a collaborative process where you build tools and insights with a non-judgmental guide.  You are in charge of what you share, and what you choose to practice or implement.

Myth: I have friends to talk to; I don't need a therapist.

Reality: Friends offer great support, but therapists are trained professionals with specific techniques to help you gain deeper patterns and tools.

Myth: I'll be in therapy forever.

Reality: Therapy length varies; some issues resolve in a few sessions, while others need longer, but it's individualized and goal-oriented.

Myth: My problems aren't serious enough.

Reality: No issue causing distress is too small; therapy helps with daily stressors and significant life changes.

Myth: Everyone will know.

Reality: Therapists are bound by strict confidentiality laws and cannot share who they see with anyone without the consent of the client.

Safe Winter Walking. Remove traction cleats when entering building. Wipe your shoes on mats. Watch for melted snow and ice. Watch for slippery surfaces.

Winter Safety Tips...Slow and Steady

We would like to remind everyone to be safe while on campus during the winter months. No matter how well the snow and ice are removed from sidewalks and parking lots, people may encounter some slippery surfaces.

  • Take your time
  • Select appropriate footwear – flat footwear with rubber soles provides best traction
  • Keep both hands out of pockets for balance
  • Avoid taking shortcuts. Use Main Entrances only to enter/exit buildings, not side entrances.
  • Hold onto your vehicle when going in/out for support
  • Be sure to use floor mats when entering a building to remove moisture from your shoes
