Lake Superior College Athletics is at l s c dot e d u slash athletics

91ɬÂþ to Discontinue Athletics

After a careful review of our athletics program and in consultation with Minnesota State Chancellor Scott Olson, the tough decision to discontinue intercollegiate athletics at the end of the Spring 2025 semester was made.

The College thoroughly looked at our model when it comes to finances, staffing and facilities when making this decision. We know this impacts many in our community, especially our student-athletes, coaches, and supporters who have dedicated so much to 91ɬÂþ athletics since the start of athletics at the school in 2015.

We encourage you to reach out if you have any questions. Please know that we are here to support you during this transition.

Happy Hormones

While happiness is a fleeting emotion, experienced in moments versus a permanent state of being, there are a lot of things that we can do to enhance our mood by hacking into our body’s hormones.  Next time you’re feeling low, unmotivated, or just need a burst of warm, fuzzy feelings consider the following:

Serotonin: A mood stabilizer that helps with sleep, can reduce anxiety, and promotes feelings of happiness.

  • Exercise
  • Get some sunshine
  • Meditate
  • Eat a healthy meal (include some protein)

Happy Hormones include dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins.

Oxytocin: Known as the “bonding hormone”, it helps build feelings of connection and love.

Hug someone you love (for at least 20 seconds)

  • Spend time with friends
  • Show affection
  • Do something kind for someone
  • Pet your pet

Dopamine: The feel good chemical that runs your brain’s reward system.

  • Check something off your to do list
  • Acknowledge yourself for something you feel you did well today
  • Try something new
  • Do something creative

Endorphins: The brain’s natural pain killer, they help to reduce stress and increase feelings of pleasure.

  • Exercise
  • Eat some dark chocolate
  • Take a hot bath
  • Create music or art
  • Laugh

Get outside!
